DevGAMM Hamburg 2015: Reporting from the Heart of European Gaming Industry

As you know, less than a week ago DevGAMM conference that Renatus has been organizing for two years took a premier launch in a beautiful city of Hamburg, considered to be the center of European gaming industry.

Thanks to the support of Innogames, Unity, Renatus, Vizor, Gamigo, Goodgame Studios, Puzzle Dreams, gamecity:Hamburg, and superhuman efforts of dedicated DevGAMM team headed by Lerika Mallayeva, the event resonated with Western audience and received positive feedback from the locals.

Relocating one of the events to Western Europe, that was terra incognita to the conference makers focused on CIS audience, felt like all or nothing. And we’re happy to report that it definitely was ALL. DevGAMM Hamburg 2015 can be now called a starting point for a series of European gamedev events of entirely new, better level.

DevGAMM has always been famous for high-class speakers gathering from around the world to share experience and talk about the latest achievements, innovations, technologies, and the burning issues of today’s industry. Hamburg event was the same with Stan Just, Brjann Sigurgeirsson, Christopher Torchia, Mike Rose and representatives of Microsoft, Unity, Wargaming, Bigpoint, Chartboost speaking out from tribune at luxurious Grand Elysee Hotel.

In two days all traditional subjects were covered, from game design and technologies to virtual reality and best platforms to sell games in 2015. Discussion panel was dedicated to indie game development and well received by European indie community.

During GAMM:Play, 36 new titles were exhibited by the developers who had enough time to establish useful connections. Apart from meeting with the right people, game makers were having a lot of fun and entertained visitors with their costumed looks.

When it comes to different nation, people usually have long discussions about different mentalities. Well, this event indeed gathered an entirely new type of audience, but there was something that connected all of them. This something is called Game Lynch. Extravagant in a good way, absolutely unexpected and extremely entertaining it became a highlight. Especially due to the unusual way of determining a winner - developers had to rival in Chicken Jump to win a laptop. And they did!

Speed Game Dating turned out to be a discovery for European audience as well. A format of bringing developers and publishers together did its job - participants got positive results, and the conference team was contented knowing that they managed to surprise people who’ve seen a lot.

DevGAMM Awards was hosted by Yulia Vakhrusheva and Mike Rose who gave the public a lot of funny and touching moments. The authors of award-winning titles took valuable prizes brought by Game Insight. Among the most notable games that won 2 nominations each were Skara, The Blade Remains (8-bit Studio), Retro Invasion (THREAKS) and Karma. Incarnation 1 (AuraLab).

DevGAMM Hamburg was not only productive and entertaining, it was filled with warmth, friendliness and made everyone feel at home, though the total number of attendees was over 500. DevGAMM team fell in love with Hamburg and will definitely return there next year.

Meanwhile, it’s time to prepare for the next conference that will take place in Minsk this December. It’s 3 months ahead, but early-bird registration will open soon. So don’t miss your chance to become part of the incredible happening that can change your life!
